Polymin (Dual composite Mineral Wool / Polyurethane) (Details and specifications for Polymin)

Polymin is a dual composite insulation medium consisting of a layer of Mineral Wool with a final sealing layer of injected Polyurethane foam. The outer layer of PU foam prevents any moisture penetration into the insulation medium and gives the final product a very rigid, stable finish. Due to the excellent thermal conductivity of PU foam the combined system gives up to a 15% energy saving compared to a regular Mineral wool system. The Polymin system also extends the life span and performance range of the insulation.

Installation Procedure

The mineral wool section is installed and bound to the piping or component to be insulated, the cladding/ mechanical barrier is then installed using preformed foam spacer blocks. Once all the piping and components have been encapsulated, foam is then injected between the enclosed space and the Mineral wool section at high pressure. The agitated mixture then has a rising time of 27 seconds and a gel/setting time of +/- 10 minutes.

Advantages and Characteristics of Polymin

  • Any circumferential and longitudinal joints are eradicated due to a continuous layer of insulation, thus not permitting any moisture transmission.
  • Injected Polyurethane is light, very rigid and has a density of 60kg/m³
  • Dual silicone vapour barriers on the mineral wool outer layer and the internal metal cladding surface.
  • An energy saving of up to 15% can be obtained.
  • The cladding temperature is greatly reduced, thus aiding personnel protection.
  • The final composite insulation product has a rigid, stable finish and can accommodate light foot traffic.
  • Injected polyurethane has normal life span of up to 40 years under working conditions.
  • Excellent acoustic and vibration resistant properties.
  • Polyurethane is resistant to most chemicals, particularly hydrocarbons and solvents.
