Mineral Wool (Details and specifications for Mineral Wool)
This non combustible mineral wool is a composition of inorganic components which are melted in a furnace, and then spun and bonded with a resin to form various insulation products.
Mineral wool comes in various forms. Meter sections come in preformed sections and vary in density from 160kg/m³ to 185kg/m³, depending on the pipe size. The Wired Mattress, rigid and semi-rigid board and flexible felt comes in a matt form, or reinforced mat depending on the requirements. The matt comes in densities from 60kg/m³ to 160kg/m³ depending on the temperature of the system and the end performance requirements needed by the customer. When systems, exceeding 850°C are encountered asbestos heat resistant sleeves or tape is used.
Advantages and Characteristics of Mineral wool
- The density varies according to the customers needs, 60kg/m³ to 160kg/m³
- Very light and easy to apply.
- Can be tailored to any requirement, set by the customer.
- Complies with the Class 1 of SABS 0177 Part III standard, which is the highest SABS fire rating. And SABS 1077 Part V for combustibility.
- Has a thermal conductivity ranging from 0.07 W/mK to 0.21 W/mK. This all depends on the product and the boundary conditions of the system.
- Is very resistant to most alkalis. And the leachable chloride content is less than 5ppm, thus not propagating corrosion.
