Elastomeric Nitrile (EN) - (Details and specifications for Elastomeric Nitrile)

This is a new age insulation medium. Elastomeric Nitrile is a 100% closed cell Nitrile rubber compound with superior insulating qualities. Due to a 100% closed cell formation there is no need to use alternative vapour barriers or foil to Mylar.

The rubber comes in various thicknesses and is applied to the surface area of the components using an adhesive compound. EN is usually applied in a double layer, depending on the process temperature. The second layer is applied to the first by means of the same adhesive compound. A final layer of adhesive compound is then applied before the mechanical barrier.

Advantages and Characteristics of EN

  • Has a density of between 70kg/m³ to 90kg/m³
  • Has a 100% closed cell formation.
  • Is easy to work with and to apply.
  • Resistant to various alkalis, acids and certain solvents.
  • Self extinguishing and weather resistant.
  • Has an operating range between -40°C and +85°C.
  • Has a thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK.
